Enterprising Interns

Having personally spent years trying to get ‘proper’ work experience I know how valuable it is just to be in the work environment. How do you get around the ‘no experience, no job: no job, no experience’ dichotomy? Although we had accommodated work experience placements in the past, we found it hard to give them the developmental and varied experience they deserved.

Having focussed on preparing well in advance, last week we pushed aside our concerns by welcoming a record three work experience placements, - Catherine from Cardiff University, Emma from London Metropolitan University and Mahmoud, an MBA student from Newcastle University who will be staying on. He has shown great interest in the CR field, approaching his projects with an enthusiastic and fresh business head.

We have learnt that given the right amount of preparation, there is no reason why a project which keeps being pushed to the bottom of the list can’t be tailored to fit a student’s skills and interests. They will get as much from the experience as us, and they may well be able to use the work in their assignments.
