
Increasing the nation’s digital capacity makes sense on every count. There are 17 million people in the UK with no access to the internet. The impact on their lives of not being able to do the things that others take for granted - seeking advice, looking for jobs and housing, arranging finances, sourcing the best deals and just keeping in touch – is debilitating.
Moving into the digital age is essential if we want to maintain momentum as a world leader in the communications and digital technology sectors. The Government’s pledge of £30 million over the next three years to provide internet access to those 17 million people is a stride in the right direction and shows the level of priority now given to the issue.
Lumina has recently been managing Internet Rangers - a scheme that rewards young people who help adults to get online. We’ve had a record number of entries which will be judged by some of the country’s top digital experts.
