We had the most amazing opportunity to invite colleagues, clients and associates on a tour around the Olympic site in Stratford.
It was truly inspirational and we came away armed with facts and figures about the Olympic Development Agency’s (ODA) community and environmental projects. It is hard to believe that every particle of soil on the site is cleaned, and the entire River Lea running through the 2.5 sq km site has been dredged. Over 2,000 newts and hundreds of toads were relocated and amongst the debris, a bag of sawn-off shot guns was recovered!
Whilst digging the site, remnants of a bronze-age settlement were discovered including skeletons as well as roman coins and Second World War helmets!
Imagining a building site, we were amazed to see how the area has developed so rapidly. You can see the main Olympic stadium, Velodrome, the Aquatics Centre as well as the Olympic Village, which will house over 17,000 athletes and trainers.
It’s incredible to think that there’s another two years of preparation to go with live events taking place there in 2011.
